Understanding the Care Act
What is it?
Understanding the Care Act is an innovative eLearning package developed from the learning resources produced by the College of Social Work, The National Skills Academy for Social Care and Skills for Care. It consolidates a range of learning resources into a clear and concise user friendly course.
The course is an Open College Network West Midlands Quality Endorsed eLearning course, which means that the quality processes relating to the development, content and assessment of this course are recognised as good practice*.
This introductory course provides a comprehensive induction to the Care Act coming into force on 1st April 2015 and provides additional signposting to further third party information and learning. The course uses a user friendly, intuitive and engaging delivery platform built especially to encourage learning and retention.
Why do I need to do it?
Primarily, this course is intended to support compliance and develop knowledge of the new Care Act for Local Authorities, providers, users and carers. This includes managers, social workers and other professionals responsible for assessing care needs and providing care and support. It covers the background and basic framework of the Act including legislative regulations and statutory guidance.
In addition, the course aims to support the continuing professional development (CPD) needs of learning providers such as teachers and tutors within schools and colleges that have a responsibility to deliver health and social care training. This introductory course ensures that all relevant health and social care staff have a base understanding of the Care Act and the key changes in relation to their own and other's roles.
